Presented by Association of Latin American Students
Premiering April 24 at 7pm CT. See below for links to the streamed event.
Carnaval is a student-run Latin cultural production featuring many dances as well as a skit. We strive to share with WashU the vibrant and lively traditions of Latin America, and we hope to raise awareness of Latine and Latin American issues.
Each year ticket proceeds help support a charity or nonprofit organization. This year Carnaval proceeds will help support Casa de Salud.
Casa de Salud provides healthcare resources for immigrants, of all origins, in St. Louis. Providing access to healthcare serves the purpose of creating a culturally rich community beneficial to all. In the STL area, many people suffer barriers to accessing care, such as language, transportation, lack of insurance, and busy work schedules. Casa has devoted time and energy to providing healthcare support for their foreign-born community. For example, Casa’s volunteer physicians and providers provide primary care for patients at a flat rate of $35. The care covers chronic disease management, mental health, nutrition counseling, and many others. Additionally, one of the biggest issues their patients face is the difficulty of navigating the US health system. Casa provides case management for patients referred to them, which includes appointment setting, navigation to their appointments, advocating for patients, and supporting financial assistance.
