Virtual Event

Ashoka is a student-run South Asian cultural group that strives to promote understanding and appreciation of South Asian culture at Washington University in St. Louis. This year, our spring show will feature multiple dance styles native to South Asia, a cappella, and a skit. Through our show, we hope to showcase the beautifully vibrant nature of South Asian culture.

Each year ticket proceeds help support a charity or nonprofit organization.  This year proceeds will help support Apna Ghar.  And now, a bit on our philanthropy partner, Apna Ghar.

Apna Ghar is a human rights organization working to end gender violence. Apna Ghar developed its own model of service delivery based on a research project with Loyola University’s Center for Urban Research and Learning (CURL). This resulted in a socio-ecological model and framework of service delivery that shows a holistic understanding of the macro and micro level barriers faced by immigrant survivors of gender violence.

Since 1990, Apna Ghar has reached 100,000 survivors and community members, with the year 2020 marking 30 years of service. In 2019, Apna Ghar’s program participants were from 60+ countries and its staff provided services in 20+ languages. By providing emergency housing, transitional housing, counseling services, social services advocacy, legal services advocacy, and more, Apna Ghar continues to provide critical, comprehensive, and culturally competent services to those in need.

Apna Ghar remains on the front line, available to help. If you or a loved one are in need of services, please do not hesitate to call or text Apna Ghar at 773-334-4663, or email them at help@apnaghar.org.
