Argentina's gauchos are the equivalent of the North American cowboys. Since the 1600s, the malambo has been their solo and competitive dance expression, performed exclusively by men. Primal energy and diabolic rhythms surge from intricate foot stomping accompanied by drums and guitar. French ballet choreographer Gilles Brina has created a theatrical showcase that shows the fire and fury of this ancient tradition.

A combination of jazz, funk, hip-hop and classical music is the signature sound of Black Violin. Classically trained artists Wilner "Wil B" Baptiste (viola) and Kevin "Kev Marcus" Sylvester (violin) are redefining the music world, one string at a time. Black Violin is breaking all the rules with their genre-busting sound influenced by greats ranging from Shostakovich and Bach to Nas and Jay-Z. They recently performed at the 2013 Inauguration Ball for the President and First Lady.

The remarkably clever ensemble, 500 Clown brings their signature mix of madcap comic mayhem in Trapped. 500 Clown ricochets between planned elements and improv when the clowns are unexpectedly ensnared- "trapped" -in an innovative set piece, then hilariously try to escape. 500 Clown is physical theater at its best. The company uses action-based performance, improvisation and circus arts to tell dramatic stories that catapult the clowns into both physical and emotional chance-taking situations.

bus subsidy Program

Edison acknowledge the economic challenges schools are facing with loss of income, budget cuts, and job losses. In order to help schools attend field trips to Edison for exciting performances in music, theatre, and dance, the Friends of Edison Board has instituted a program to subsidize funding for bus transportation to Edison Theatre.

This program is geared to schools wishing to attend Edison performances but do not have the funds for bus transportation. For each of the Field Trip performances, Edison has raised funds to help schools offset the cost of bus transportation. The total funds available for 2012-2013 have not been finalized to date. The goal is to raise enough funds to help each school that demonstrates a financial need.

Application Process
To apply for the bus subsidy, you must complete the Edison Bus Subsidy Application and submit it by the deadline to be considered for bus subsidy funding. Note the Ticket Reservation form may be submitted separately or together with the Bus Subsidy Application. If you are applying for transportation to more than one performance, please include a separate application for each performance. The awards will be made based on economic need and those schools best able to communicate its need for funding. Listed below are the deadline dates for this season.
